Who is the TLC Foundation & Why Did They Come to PBJ For Help?
The TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors is a health-related human services organization dedicated to supporting the 1-in-20 individuals experiencing body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) through advocacy, awareness, connection, health education, celebration, and equitable access to effective evidence-based treatments.
Following a site redesign, BFRB experienced a significant drop in organic traffic, threatening their visibility at a critical time for the communities they serve.
As BFRB's rankings declined, several competing sites moved aggressively to claim their position on the search results page. This raised concerns not just about lost visibility, but about the spread of misinformation surrounding BFRB-related conditions to vulnerable audiences actively searching for reliable guidance.
Our Strategy
Content Strategy
To expand BFRB's organic footprint, PBJ identified and built out condition pages that were missing from the site entirely, including topics like Tongue Chewing and Hair Eating. This not only targeted additional keywords but helped establish BFRB as a topical authority in the space. PBJ also maintained a consistent blog publishing cadence, producing content that reinforced these condition pages, offered valuable resources to the BFRB community, and demonstrated the organization's expertise.
Technical Optimizations
On the technical side, PBJ guided BFRB through a full site migration from Webflow to Wix, ensuring the transition didn't further disrupt their search performance. From there, PBJ addressed underlying technical issues affecting site speed and crawlability, and provided ongoing monthly support - including managing provider additions to the site directory.
On-Page Optimizations
PBJ conducted a thorough review of BFRB's metadata, updating titles and descriptions to incorporate target keywords, better align with user search intent, and meet character count best practices. PBJ also implemented a sitewide internal linking strategy designed to signal the importance of key pages, connect related content, and build clearly defined topic clusters across the site.
