Back in May, Twitter announced it was going to make some small changes to its platform that were expected to have some big implications. The changes are scheduled to occur in the third week of September and will significantly change the way brands interact with their social media followers.
If you’re a Twitter user who struggles to stay within 140-character limit, don’t worry, relief is headed your way. But rather than expand the character limit and risk losing users who are loyal to the platform’s “short and sweet” updates, media attachments (including images, GIFs, videos, polls, URLs) and quoted tweets will no longer count toward the total character count.
“This is the most notable change we’ve made in recent times around conversation in particular, and around giving people the full expressiveness of the 140 characters,” CEO Jack Dorsey told The Verge earlier this year. “I’m excited to see even more dialog because of this.”
