Zooming in on Instagram

Instagram has been through many changes so far in 2016, and the photo- and video-sharing is back at it again. Users recently discovered that they can now zoom in on pictures. To some, this may seem like a small change, but it could have big implications for the future of content. For years, one of the most common complaints among Instagram users was that it is hard to see details in otherwise fantastic photos since they were limited to a fraction of the available screen. Although this issue is now alleviated, it’s not without its limitations. For example, unlike zooming into a photo of Facebook, when Instagram users pinch and zoom into photos they have to keep their fingers on the screen; and there is still no way to play videos full screen.Meanwhile, according to a video announcement from Instagram, the update is still limited to iPhone users, and Android users will have to wait a few weeks. It still isn’t entirely clear how this update will change the way brands interact with content. But like any update, we expect companies to shift their social media strategies to compensate – even in the slightest of ways.
