The Vast Majority of Americans Own Smartphones, Can Your Brand Handle It?

Next time you’re in a public place, such as a crowded restaurant or subway car, take a look around you. Everyone appears to have smartphones, right? Although that’s not entirely true, a new report from comScore indicates that in a few short years classic flip and “brick” phones will go extinct.The report shows that as of December 2015, an estimated 79.3% of Americans owned a smartphone, and this number is expected to surpass 80% by the middle of 2016. More specifically, 53.3% of smartphone users own an Android while 42.9% own an iPhone. Meanwhile, Microsoft and BlackBerry accounted for just 2.9% and 0.9%, respectively.Social networking continues to be one of the key uses of all types of smartphones, the report stated, as the Facebook mobile app is installed on almost 77% of devices.
