Next time you’re in a public place, such as a crowded restaurant or subway car, take a look around you. Everyone appears to have smartphones, right? Although that’s not entirely true, a new report from comScore indicates that in a few short years classic flip and “brick” phones will go extinct. The report shows that as of December 2015, an estimated 79.3% of Americans owned a smartphone, and this number is expected to surpass 80% by the middle of 2016. More specifically, 53.3% of smartphone users own an Android while 42.9% own an iPhone. Meanwhile, Microsoft and BlackBerry accounted for just 2.9% and 0.9%, respectively.Social networking continues to be one of the key uses of all types of smartphones, the report stated, as the Facebook mobile app is installed on almost 77% of devices. However, the number trails off significantly when looking at Instagram (39.1%) and Twitter (24.5%).Read more about comScore’s Smartphone Subscriber Market Share here.Adapting your brand to a “smart” worldThe trend is clear, more and more people are using smartphones to run their everyday lives, and it’s probably time to adapt your brand to handle it.
