Digital Marketing’s Future

Unless you have a crystal ball, it’s tough to know exactly what’s on the horizon for digital marketing. Even though 2018 still seems like a long way off, it’s never too early to start anticipating key trends in digital marketing for the new year.

According to Forbes Magazine, the following trends are expected to lay the groundwork for the industry in the coming months.

Social Marketing

Marketing on social media should already be a big part of your digital strategy, and this cheap /high ROI medium isn’t anticipated to wane in 2018. Expect to see brands offering more promotions than ever to followers, including discounts or cash incentives.

Talent Disconnects

In the marketing world, there are two types of professionals: classically-trained and digital marketers. Unfortunately, when these two work together, sometimes there can be talent disconnects resulting in wasted budgets and unsuccessful campaigns. If you don’t stay on top of your digital game, this could become more of a trend in 2018.

Video Marketing

Login to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and what do you see? The big three social networks started going video heavy-during 2017, and this trend isn’t expected to slow in 2018. In fact, with the adoption of new and improved technology, such as VR and 360 videos, you can expect to see mind-blowing video content on social media.

In-Store Marketing

A recent study conducted by the Digital Marketing Institute suggests that approximately 75% of millennials are willing to receive location-based mobile alerts from retailers. Stores are starting to harness this sentiment by offering discounts and promotions to consumers who are in brick-and-mortar stores. Spend on shopper marketing is expected to grow to $18.6 billion by 2020.
